WESTOVER, MD, February 1, 2024 – The Somerset County Board of Education recently announced the selection of national search and consulting firm, School Exec Connect, to assist and advise the Board in its search for the next Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools. Dr. John Gaddis, having served in the role of Superintendent for the last 12 years, announced his retirement at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Under State law, the new Superintendent must start on July 1, 2024.

At the January 31, 2024 open regular meeting, Board Chairperson, Mr. Bill McInturff shared, “If things go as planned, we should be able to announce our selection of a new Superintendent by the end of May 2024, following approval by the State Superintendent. In the interim, you can expect to receive updates on the progress of our search consistent with strategic goals and legal obligations. We appreciate the community’s continued patience and support as the Board moves forward with this important work on behalf of our school system.”

Additional details about the timeline of the search, candidate vetting process, and opportunities for community participation will be forthcoming as the Somerset Board of Education engages with the senior advising team at School Exec Connect over the coming weeks.
